The miracles of the Quran

The Quran, Islam’s holy book, is revered not only as a guide for spiritual and ethical life but also as a miraculous text.

The concept of “miracles” in the Quran refers to aspects of the book that challenge human understanding, revealing knowledge or wisdom that points to its divine origin.

We will explore different types of Quranic miracles, and their role in confirming the authenticity.

Understanding the Concept of Miracles in Islam

In Islam, miracles (known as “mu’jizat” in Arabic) refer to events or phenomena that surpass natural laws, thus providing evidence of divine intervention.

The Quran, Muslims believe, is the greatest of all miracles because it is not bound by time or place, nor does it need a physical phenomenon to validate its miraculous nature.

Defining Miracles in the Quran

Distinction between ordinary miracles performed by prophets (e.g., Moses parting the sea, Jesus healing the blind) and the miracle of the Quran.

There is no Prophet, but he was given signs that led people to believe in him, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stated.

I hope to have the most followers on the Day of Resurrection because what I have been given is revelation from Allah. Al-Bukhaari narrates (7274).

This indicates that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) received the greatest of all signs from the Holy Qur’an. It is a miracle in the purest sense of the word; that is, it is impossible for humans, the jinn, or anything else to create anything comparable.

Why the Quran as a “living miracle” transcends historical and geographical limitations.

And if you (Christians, Jews, and Arab pagan people) have any doubts about what We sent down (i.e. e. the Qur’an) to Our slave (Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), then create a Soorah (chapter) similar to it and, if you are telling the truth, call your witnesses (helpers and supporters) beside Allah.

The jinn and mankind are incapable of producing anything like it.

The Purpose of Quranic Miracles

Miracles as a sign of prophethood and evidence of divine authority.

The fact that a man without formal education, who had never read a book and had never written anything with his right hand, recounted events from the beginning of the world to its revelation;

he (Muhammad) related the tales of the Prophets and their countries, as well as events from earlier generations; he responded to inquiries and challenges from the People of the Book regarding the People of the Cave, Moosa, and Dhu’l-Qarnayn stories.

He came to them with something they knew was sound, despite the fact that he was an uneducated man from an uneducated country that had no knowledge of such topics based on previously published books.

Miracles in the Quran serve to strengthen faith and call people to worship the Creator.

Over fourteen hundred years have passed since the Qur’an’s enemies attempted to meet this challenge, which remains valid today.

The Qur’an continues to warn them of the Fire and to tell them that their religions are false and foolish.

This indicates that their motivation for creating something similar was to disprove the Qur’an and to demonstrate its falsity in front of the public.

Nothing can stop them from doing that, and nothing can stop them from answering this challenge, speaking, or writing.
Nevertheless, we have never heard of a single one of them, despite the fact that they are billions in number and comprise literati, writers, scholars, and others similar to them.

Linguistic Miracles of the Quran

The language of the Quran is recognized as one of its most profound miracles, especially in terms of its style, structure, and eloquence.

However, the miraculous qualities of the Holy Qur’an are not restricted to those that are related to the Arabic language in terms of style, composition, and eloquence; rather, there are numerous aspects of its miraculous nature, of which ten were mentioned by earlier scholars and others were added by later scholars. The possibility that Allah will reveal to future generations other aspects that we are ignorant of and that are suitable for their level of knowledge and reasoning is not implausible.

Unique Linguistic Structure

Discussion of the Quran’s composition, its rhythmic patterns, and poetic beauty that is unmatched by any human work.
The challenge the Quran presents is to produce even a single chapter comparable in style and eloquence (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 23).

Historical Miracles in the Quran

The Quran mentions historical details unknown at the time, many of which have been corroborated by later archaeological findings or historical research.

The Story of Pharaoh and Preservation of His Body

Surah Yunus (10:92) predicts the preservation of Pharaoh’s body as a sign for future generations.
The subsequent discovery of mummies in Egypt, particularly those associated with the era of Moses, aligns with this prediction.

The Prophecy of Rome’s Victory

Surah Ar-Rum (30:1–5) foretells the eventual victory of the Romans over the Persians, despite their earlier defeat, a prediction fulfilled within a few years.
Historical accuracy of this event and how it reinforced the Quran’s credibility among early believers.

Accuracy of Details on Ancient Civilizations

Mentions of ancient cities like Iram (Surah Al-Fajr, 89:7) and lost civilizations, which were unknown until their discovery by archaeologists.
How these details align with findings that confirm the Quran’s references to past peoples.
